Ultra Running- Introduction/Ethos
Ultra running is any race longer than a marathon which is technically anything more than 26.2 miles.
Ultra running generally takes place in stunning locations on spectacular trails. The terrain is varied, usually hilly and off the road. Weather conditions vary greatly too so put away your miles per minute watch and enjoy the scenery. Other trail and ultra runners are like-minded people who are generally friendly and will support you, chat to you along the way rather than race you.
To be called an ultra runner not only must you run more than 26.2 miles you must have the intent and determination to complete the distance.

Races/ Events
There are standard distances from 50 k, 30 miles, 50 miles, 100 k, 100 miles and every distance in between and beyond; these usually have a generous cut off times. There are point to point and loop races at set distances and also timed events such as 6, 12, 24 hours and beyond where you run as far as you can in the time limit.

Running
Running a marathon is difficult because you run the fastest you can for the 26.2 mile distance. Ultra running is easier in the fact that you are running slower. The trick is to keep the pace going for as long as it takes. That’s where endurance and the power of the mind are key components.
Ultra-running is grueling and challenging on the body but with sensible training, the right kit and good preparation you can get a healthier body and get amazing feelings of reaching goals that you thought were impossible.
